Bios of Principals
Howard I. Cohen, RPh, MS, FASHP
Howard I. Cohen, RPh, MS, FASHP, is a seasoned healthcare leader with over four decades of experience. Recognized for his commitment to developing professional talent, he strives for operational excellence and places a strong emphasis on ensuring safe, high-quality patient care. Howard most recently served as Executive Director of Oncology Pharmacy Services at the Smilow Cancer Hospital and Network of Yale New Haven Health—an NCI and NCCN designated cancer center—where he guided the oncology pharmacy until his retirement from Yale in 2022. He is also the former President of Safe Medication Management Assoc. Inc., a prominent healthcare consulting organization, and previously held the position of Director of Pharmacy Services at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, Inc. In addition, Howard has directed pharmacy services at several other leading academic teaching institutions. Throughout his career, Howard has overseen the planning, implementation, and safety of USP compliant programs. His leadership includes the integration of new technologies, the development of operational procedures, and comprehensive staff education. Howard earned his pharmacy degree from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy in Lawrence, Kansas. He went on to obtain a Master of Science from Temple University School of Pharmacy in Philadelphia, PA, and completed an Executive Management fellowship at the Wharton School of Business - Leonard Davis Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1995, he was recognized as a Fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
Jerry Siegel, PharmD, FASHP
Jerry Siegel, PharmD, FASHP, is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Ohio State University College of Pharmacy in Columbus, Ohio. He also serves as Vice President of Business Development and Managing Partner of Safe Medication Management Associates, Inc, in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. He is also the Executive Vice President of the Ohio Society of Health-System Pharmacy. Dr. Siegel earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree and his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Bachelor of Science Pharmacy at the Ohio State University. Dr. Siegel is a Fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (FASHP), and the Past President of the Ohio Society of Health-System Pharmacists. He has written articles for the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, Pharmacy Practice News, Specialty Pharmacy Continuum, and Human Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics. He has been an invited speaker at local, state, national, and international scientific meetings. Dr. Siegel’s area of expertise includes Ig therapy treatment and Ig product differentiation, rabies prevention and treatment, drug diversion prevention, clean room design and USP regulations and pharmacy leadership, He has trained over 400 pharmacy residents during his 35 year tenure at the Ohio State University Medical Center where he served as the Sr. Director of Pharmacy and Assistant Dean at the College of Pharmacy. Dr. Siegel is the recipient of the 2011 ASHP Board of Directors’ Distinguished Leadership Award and is an active APhA-certified immunizer.
James G. Stevenson, PharmD, FASHP, FFIP
James G. Stevenson, PharmD, is Professor Emeritus in the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. He retired in 2023 as VP and Chief Clinical Officer with Omnicell, Inc. Prior to joining Omnicell, he served as President of Visante, Inc., a medication use consulting firm. He previously served as Chief Pharmacy Officer at the University of Michigan Health System and Associate Dean for Clinical Sciences in the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. He also held executive pharmacy leadership positions at the Detroit Medical Center and West Virginia University Hospitals, as well as academic appointments at Wayne State University and West Virginia University. Stevenson has been recognized as a Fellow by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). He received the Pharmacist of the Year award from the Michigan Pharmacists Association, the Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the ASHP Award for Distinguished Leadership in Health System Pharmacy Practice, and the John W. Webb Lecture Award. He served on the ASHP Board of Directors and was an officer in the Hospital Pharmacy Section of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), which also recognized him with the Distinguished Practice Award. Stevenson completed two terms on the Michigan Board of Pharmacy. He currently serves as a strategic advisor for several medication technology companies and consults with pharmacy services organizations
Edward G. Szandzik, RPh, MBA, FASHP
Ed Szandzik earned his BS in Pharmacy (1980) and MBA (1986) from Wayne State University. He began his career as a clinical pharmacist at Henry Ford Hospital, advancing through leadership roles including Director of Pharmacy. In 2015, he was named Vice President of Pharmacy Services for the Henry Ford Health System, overseeing pharmacy operations across six hospitals. In that role, he unified and standardized services system-wide, driving improvements in patient care and operational efficiency. His leadership led to major initiatives including embedding pharmacists in clinics for chronic disease management, expanding residency programs, launching an antibiotic stewardship program, and implementing a pharmacist-led anticoagulation service. He also championed the adoption of automation technologies to streamline operations. Ed earned regional and national recognition as an exceptional leader in pharmacy. Appointed adjunct faculty at Wayne State University College of Pharmacy in 1985, Ed provided both didactic and experiential instruction. He co-developed a longitudinal advanced pharmacy practice program for PharmD students at Henry Ford—an innovative model now adopted nationwide.
Ed served as president and chair of the Michigan Pharmacists Association (MPA) and led the Southeastern Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists. His honors include the MSHP Joseph A. Oddis Leadership Award, Wayne State's Distinguished Alumni Award, ASHP Fellowship (2013), and MPA Pharmacist of the Year (2020). After retiring, he served as Executive Vice President of MSHP until 2025. Ed has mentored countless leaders and is known for his core belief: leadership is all about relationships.








Michael Reff, RPh, MBA
Michael Reff is the Founder and Executive Director of NCODA, the first patient-centered organization dedicated to advancing the value of medically integrated oncology practices. Under Michael’s leadership, NCODA has grown to support a membership of over 12,500 healthcare practitioners across more than 3,000 sites of care. He also pioneered the establishment of The Patient Rx Center at Hematology/Oncology Associates of Central New York, a leading medically integrated oncology pharmacy service focused on enhancing patient experiences with oral oncolytics. Under Michael’s vision and leadership, NCODA has evolved into a trusted leader in shaping the future of oncology care delivery. By providing comprehensive resources, fostering peer-to-peer collaboration, and establishing evidence-based quality standards, the organization improves patient outcomes while strengthening practice sustainability—ensuring community oncology remains both accessible and innovative. Michael has contributed extensively to the field of oncology care through his service on the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s (ASCO) Oncology Medical Home Certification Program Task Force and its Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) Steering Committee. He has also contributed to several initiatives within the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC). A passionate advocate for patient care, Michael frequently delivers presentations and publishes articles emphasizing the importance of continuity of care for oral oncolytics. With extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, his expertise spans oncology research, corporate compliance, international supply chains, and biologics manufacturing.
